About MXR Guitar Effects Pedals
The MXR company was founded in 1972 by Michael Laiacona, Keith Barr, and Terry Sherwood. The company based in Rochester, New York began producing guitar effects units.
The pedal that helped propell the company was the M-101 MXR Phase 90, which was used on Valen Halens first two releases. The M-101 MXR Phase 90 was followed by a lighter version of the effect known as the MXR Phase 45, and a programmable version, the Phase 100.
Below is a list of different series of MXR pedals:
Reference Series (1972 - 1984)
Commande Series (1981 - 1984)
2000 Series (1982 - 1984)
Jim Dunlop (Owner of the company responsible for the Cry Baby Wah-Wah) bought licensing rights to MXR pedals, and is now making reissues of some of the classic MXR effects pedals. Dunlop's company in addition to the re-issues, they have developed new models which include "signature pedals" such as Eddie Van Halen Phase 90, and Flanger.
